Reinstate the dismissed workers! Stop retrenchment of regular workers and put an end to the contractualization scheme at Goldilocks!

Goldilocks Workers formally staged a strike today (3:00 am, March 11, 2010) at the two plants located in Mandaluyong. The strike came as a result of the failure of both parties to conciliate.

Last February 8, 2010, the Goldilocks Company illegally dismissed 127 workers. The order came from the NLRC (National labor Relations Commission) but the management failed to consummate the necessary protocol and instead hastily implemented the order. Such action proved to be an illegal act.

Goldilocks workers filed a notice of strike while a simultaneous hearing was held at the NCMB of the Department of Labor. The violation of the management of the partial agreement entered into with the BISIG Union and the distortion of facts as presented in the manifestations in the 2 consecutive hearings last February 23-24 paved the way for the collapse of the conciliation.

The Goldilocks Workers believed that the dismissal of their colleagues was an off-shoot of the company’s plan to implement the contractualization scheme. The 127 workers will be replaced by the contractual workers to maintain huge profits and ensure low wages and benefits.

Despite the fact that the company has grown to be a successful establishment with 200 branches nationwide and outlets abroad, Goldilocks workers were left with nothing but instead met with illegal dismissal and related unfair labor practices. The company was threatened by the existence of a genuine union and in turn prompted further their resolve to frustrate and annihilate the union.

In the past, the company has proven its might as to its policies with regard to labor dispute. Mr. Joel Lachica, BISIG Union President, narrated that in the first strike of Goldilocks in 1991, “Three workers were killed and 6 were wounded when the picket line were brutally sprayed with bullets by the police in that strike and we’re not discounting the possibility that such harrowing experience would be repeated this time around.” ######
